Tailored for seamless play, each game includes required characters responsible for crucial clues, and optional characters to enhance the intrigue. Assign each guest to a character and send out their descriptions along with their invitation prior to your event. There are male characters, female characters, and interchangeable characters so that you can assign appropriately. Invitations should be sent to your party guests prior to your event so that they know their assigned character, the theme, and the plot.

The narrative unfolds through multiple acts or parts, with required characters receiving envelopes containing vital clues and information for their roles. These central characters are the focus of the investigation, providing the primary source of clues as the game progresses. For official events, consider designating required characters as actors or staff, while optional characters can be filled by your attendees. Everyone involved can remain in the dark besides the host, who is the only individual that needs to be privy to the unfolding plot, guiding the game from behind the scenes (in your own character role, of course).
